New to Zoom? Technical / Troubleshooting Questions
How do I get on the list for a TD Cocoa Party?
You need to register via the Zoom link provided. I usually include the event link in any post specifically about an upcoming party. You can also find a list of upcoming events which each link to their registration page on the TD Cocoa main page.
How do I get to a td cocoa PARTY?
You should have received a personal invite (emailed through Zoom) with a link when your registration was approved. (Please don’t share this anywhere online because Zoombombers could use that to disrupt our event.) If you never received an email through Zoom approving your registration or don’t have your link handy, e-mail me and let me know, and I will re-send yours. (Everyone gets their own.)
When should I log on to the party?
I will be on about 15 minutes early help people through any technical issues. Join any time before the start time. If you need to join later, no worries. You will start in the “waiting room.” If I don’t seem to be letting you in, I might be distracted by the meeting. You can always e-mail me or text me. (You should have received my full contact info in a pre-meeting email.)
What if I have trouble logging in?
You can e-mail me or text as above. I will try to help but will also need to run the meeting. So, if you’re concerned about tech, please try to join a few minutes early.
OTHER Frequently asked questions about TD Cocoa
I’m not exactly in Talent Development or Learning and Development. Can I still come?
Please do! The goal is for us to get together with like-minded people so those with an Organization Development, I/O Psychology, Human Resources, etc. background and anyone who routinely works with TD/L&D folks is more than welcome to join. Consider yourself officially “TD-Adjacent” and you’re more than welcome. I also want to extend a special invitation to anyone temporarily furloughed or in transition.
Is this a “Target Rich Environment” for selling my services to Talent Developers?
First of all, eww. Second, some personal promotion / selling is allowed and even encouraged, but we purposefully keep it for the last quarter of the meeting. Our closing includes each of us introducing ourselves with our “business hats” on. That’s when you can talk about your offerings and why someone should follow-up with you. We are definitely devoted to helping each other succeed, but it also becomes real apparent when someone is just there for themselves.
What’s A TD COCOA party like?
Hopefully fun! I’ll lead a simple exercise to kick us off and then split people into random breakouts to get to know each other and discuss an aspect of our theme. We’ll come back together at the end; I will share a little more around our theme and and we can get to know each other with our “business hats” on.
Yeah, but what’s it really going to be like?
will I be welcome and safe there?
Think casual in tone but HR-friendly in content. I want to laugh, but I don’t want anyone to be offended. Also, I put a high-priority on creating an inclusive and equitable experience. We share our pronouns and begin every session with some basic ground rules to support this. Please let me know how I can be a better host and create a better, more diverse experience; I welcome any coaching on this. Also, if anything happens that you find weird or uncomfortable, please reach out to me privately through chat or using the communication options above and I will try to handle it in a manner that feels right for you.
