WHAT IS FUTURE BRUNCH?

Short check-ins on Zoom around our individual pursuits of meaningful, independent goals. (All times Central.)

9:45a - What will you work on today to enhance your personal / professional life?

11a, 12p, and 1p - How is the work going?

2p - What did you accomplish? What's next?

What should I do during Future Brunch?

Future Brunch is permission to focus on something meaningful to you and your own personal / professional growth for four hours or less! (It’s up to you!)

Maybe you will update your website to better define yourself to your market, outline a new product/service you could offer, or just pursue your own personal growth with an online course or just reading a book. Maybe you’ll spend the time cleaning out your home office, because that’s what would be most helpful to you.

If you would benefit from investing specific time to support your long-term personal, creative, and/or professional future, then this might be for you.

HOW DOES FUTure brunch work?

Here’s a Check-in by Check-in explanation. (Again, all times Central.)

opening meeting @ 9:45am: What do you want to do today? (10-20 min)

  • What happens: On this call, we get to know each other briefly and each share one thing, the accomplishment of which would make us feel like we are doing something to progress in life.

  • Choose something that reflects “enlightened selfishness.” It should be something that you are doing to create your future, not as part of any obligation you have to any client, boss, or organization. (If you think, “well I have to do this for xyz,” it’s not for this. This should feel good, rewarding, and specific to who you truly are and want to be.)

  • It doesn’t have to be a big thing. It could be “develop my mission statement.” But it also could be “write the first draft a blog post that demonstrates my thought leadership.”

CHECK-IN MEETINGS @ 11AM, 12PM, and 1PM: HOW IS IT GOING? (10 MIN)

  • What happens: On these calls, we check in to provide encouragement and support, and to share tactical goals for the next hour.

  • No pressure. Use these calls as reminders to protect this time and focus on what you’ve chosen to do. If you come back and say, “I wanted to do X, but just kept getting distracted,” no problem. Each hour is an opportunity to shake it off and try again.

  • And, if you want to blow off one of these call because the work is going well and you don’t want to stop, awesome.

  • Also, it’s called “Future Brunch” for a reason. Don’t forget to eat something!

closing meeting @ 2PM: how did you do today? what’s next? (5-20 MIN)

  • What happens: On this call, we share how we feel about the experience and what we accomplished. Then we share what next step we have in mind for the work we did today. We brainstorm ways to keep moving forward.

  • Like all the calls, this one is totally optional. It will be 2pm by that point. So, if you’re done, be done!

  • Hopefully, this will provide a forum to celebrate our success and process our difficulties together.
